Finding Forgiveness

The other day I was thinking about how forgiveness is such a powerful healing tool for our mind and soul.
We often think of forgiveness when we need to say sorry to someone we love or we are accepting an apology. But what about the forgiveness we give to ourselves?
Self-forgiveness may not look the same for everyone, but it is truly a healing practice to learn.
My favorite way to express forgiveness to myself is through writing and positive affirmations.
Even though you might think what you did was not worthy of forgiveness, know that there is always someone else experiencing the same pain in this world.
We can all hide behind our mistakes and flaws, but until we own up to them and give acknowledgment, they will take up our mental space.
This is a short reflection I wrote the other day when I was feeling guilty and embarrassed about how I have treated myself in the past.
“I want to be free, free of the mental pain that keeps me awake.
Free from the self torture I put myself through daily
Free from the chains of my mind that tells me I’m nothing
Free from who I think I am and just be myself
To find this freedom is simple in theory, but much harder in practice.
To realize that only we can control how we view ourselves
To know that true forgiveness comes from within not outside
To understand why the battle never ends and how to overcome the struggles each day
We all have our own demons and our past that haunts us, it’s about how we handle it that matters.
We can try to forgive ourselves for what we’ve done, but we can’t undo it.
We can acknowledge our part in the situation and know that we can only go forward from here.
We can open our mind to new perspectives and realize that our forgiveness is always deserving.”
Thank you for reading this and for showing yourself forgiveness and grace whenever needed.
Remember that you are love & light, shine bright as you are, a star 💫
