Tarifa is know as the most southern point of Europe and Spain, but the Canary Islands are actually the most southern point of Spain and Europe. That’s a little Geography lesson for ya since I did go to school to study that.
The town was really cool and a lot more hills than Barbate and other places we’ve been to so far. Although Salamanca and Madrid were a bit hilly at times too. Since it is at the tip of the peninsula there are mountains views on each side with views of Tangier, Morocco and Gibraltar, GB.
Our first day was pretty chill we just went to the spa with the pool and sauna to relax. We walked around and explored a bit after sunset then got some crepes and an espresso. We didn’t research much about restaurants for dinner but just found one nearby that had Asian fusion, it was amazing.

The Sunday we left I decided the night before that I would not use my phone the whole day for a much needed social media/screen break. This was actually the perfect time to go somewhere new to be able to experience it with full attention and less distractions.
The second day was so windy we could barely go outside without feeling like we were about to fall over. We braced the wind and went on a few walks around to get some brunch and explore the local streets. The food and service for brunch were amazing, super healthy and fresh!
After our meal we walked home and decided to check out the spa again for a little bit. Turns out the sauna was not working anymore and we just hit the pool and worked out a bit. Sad because this was the main reason we booked this place but glad we got to enjoy at least one day.

We headed back upstairs to relax for a nap and then watch the sunset from the balcony. The views were so beautiful being on the hill and the sunsets even more magical.

Since it was so windy that day we didn’t go out for any tapas and just let Emma take a longer nap and chill. We looked on UberEats and Glovo, but sadly the only place open on a Monday was Burger King. So we out on a movie and just made do with our fast food dinner. I tried the veggie chicken sandwich, which I think I have had once before but it was what was expected, soggy lettuce and little flavor. But hey at least the ice cream was delicious and edible.
The next morning I was definitely feeling the effects of our last nights meal and wanted to go to the gym. I realized I didn’t have the right key and went for a walk to the beach instead. The sunrise sky was so beautiful and colorful I was so grateful I woke up early enough to see it all. The walk to the beach was peaceful and it was great to explore new routes and different areas of the city.

After I was summoned back home by my daughter we spent the morning relaxing at the Airbnb and freshening up. We then went on a family adventure to find something to eat near the beach. The place we stopped at was dog friendly and had lots of kids there too. We ordered a different version of calamari called Chipirones which were so good and had a yummy sauce. The goat cheese salad is a favorite of ours so we got that to go with the fish, which did not disappoint.
We walked, Emma ran, on our way back to the Airbnb. I actually enjoyed the hills because we could digest and take our time getting back. Emma took a nap and I decided to go back out for the sunset on the beach. As always, watching the sunset puts me in a great mood and I went for a nice long walk afterwards. There were people windsurfing, views of the Castle of Santa Catalina and the port to take the ferry to Morocco. Somehow I ended up all the way to this lookout tower with beautiful views of the night lights on both sides of the city.

Although I would’ve opted to try somewhere new, we decided to go back to the same place we went for lunch for dinner as well. They had a really good menu so we ordered some different things, we started with a traditional dish, Russian potato salad (ensaladilla rusa) and then this one chicken dish and and it was all so tasty. The best by far was the homemade cheesecake for dessert. It was so creamy and fluffy, I was so full already half way through.

This was our last night so we just went for a little walk and headed home to relax. Our last morning we slept in a little and just packed up our stuff to go. We really enjoyed the vibe of this place and it was a bittersweet feeling to leave.
Until next time Tarifa, may we meet again some day soon.
