Sometimes we can get a little overwhelmed with all of the self care products and things to do in our daily self care routine because there is just so much. But honestly, the best thing we can do for ourselves when we need to heal is rest.
Even at the doctor or when you have a cold they say sleep/rest is the best medicine. If you are feeling stressed or mentally need a break, just take a nap. I feel like we say this to children when they are young but then stop when we grow up because we are working or doing so much for others.
In Spain and Italy they take an afternoon nap as part of the culture and all the shops and businesses close to take a rest. Many people know the US to be a place full of hard workers and that our work ethic is higher than other places. Unfortunately, the highs are high and they lows are low, burnout is a result of this nonstop work mentality with little focus on rest.
Taking a pause in life is always a great way to refocus and find alignment in your goals and values. We can easily get caught up in our routine and get distracted by all of the social media, news, work, etc. Turning off the screen is the best way to finally find that peace and quiet you need each day.
Remember that rest isn’t lazy—it’s necessary. Use this message as encouragement to take guilt-free breaks and embrace stillness as a powerful form of self-care. Maybe just a short meditation is all you have time for, but at least it is something.
How will you get rest today?
